Congratulations to Old Elean, Maria Campbell, who has raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK by completing the Edinburgh Marathon!

Maria, who was Head of School from 2018-19, crossed the finish line in 4 hours, 20 minutes and 19 seconds. The Edinburgh Marathon took place on Sunday, May 26th and this was Maria’s second marathon.

Maria joined King’s Ely Prep in Year 5 and since leaving King’s Ely Sixth Form, she has graduated from the University of Exeter, with a degree in Modern Languages. She has recently moved to Edinburgh as she is involved in the NatWest Graduate Scheme there.

NatWest have celebrated Maria’s marathon challenge by donating £500 to Cancer Research UK, and Maria has raised a further £765 through donations from family and friends!

Maria, who was also an Ely Cathedral Chorister during her time at King’s, said: “This was my second marathon and I managed to complete this one eight minutes quicker than the last. It was fairly brutal as the rain was torrential. Cancer has touched all of our lives and in different ways. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me. I promise I will not be running any more marathons (maybe!).”
