Our King’s Ely Prep Jazz Band went down a storm in the beautiful cathedral city of York!

Mr Chris Parsons, who is Head of Performance Music at King’s Ely Prep, arranged the mini tour, which included the band performing in the York Festival of Ideas.

The band travelled to York on Friday, June 7th and gave a lunchtime recital to an audience of around 100 people in St Helen’s Church the following day. They also did some busking in one of the central squares, attracting a large and appreciative audience!

Mr Parsons said: “Everyone performed fantastically well and it was a thoroughly enjoyable trip for all involved! There was also the chance to do some sightseeing, including walking on the medieval walls and doing a treasure trail across the city, which took in The Shambles and York Minster.”

In St Helen’s Church, the band performed an eclectic mix of jazz, blues and rock favourites, as well as classic big band chart hits like Tuxedo Junction and Basin Street Blues, and a celebration of South African jazz compositions.

Mr Parsons said: “Congratulations to the pupils and thank you to all of the staff for their support. I hope that this is the start of many exciting Prep Music Tours to come!”
