A terrific regatta season for King’s Ely Boat Club concluded with four of our Senior girls competing in the Henley Royal Regatta qualifying races, and our Year 10 boys winning Bronze at the Peterborough Junior Championships!

Mary Garrod, Clara Torlesse, Caitlin Morton, and Elizabeth Boutwood were thrilled (as were we!) to achieve a spot in the qualifying races at Henley. The girls gave it their all in a bid to secure a place in the Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup’s Junior Women’s Quadruple Sculls (JW4x). They finished a very respectable 22nd out of 47 crews, all competing for just seven spaces. Despite not qualifying, it was a marvellous experience for the girls, who did themselves and King’s proud.

The following day, our Year 10 rowers competed closer to home, at the Peterborough Junior Championships. The 1,000-metre course saw both boys’ and girls’ squads racing a mix of doubles, quads, and octos, achieving some great results throughout the day.

The Boys’ Octo – Thomas Strudwick, Hugo Ware, Theodore Logan, Oliver Biggs, Henry Moss, Sebastian Thompson, Harry Walker, Matthew Allen, and Thomas Peters – won Bronze!

The Girls’ Octo – Grace Charlton, Sabrina Edwards, Isla Faulkner, Niamh Gibb, Lara Black-Borja, Keryn du Plooy, Caitlin Morton, Eva Green, and Liana Morton – raced well to finish fourth. Kudos to Liana who was competing for King’s for the very first time.

Mr Craig Ward, who is Head of Rowing at King’s, said: “This season has been a fantastic and memorable one for all our rowers, with national medals, high standard performances, and significant growth. Congratulations to everyone for their achievements – we look forward to doing it all again next year!”
