Internationally acclaimed historical fiction author, Natasha Pulley, visited King’s yesterday (February 27th) to help launch our ‘Festival of Reading Week’!

A feast of literary activities and events are taking place around school throughout this week to celebrate all things reading, books and writing, and pupils from Nursery through to Sixth Form are involved.

Natasha, who wrote ‘The Watchmaker of Filigree Street’ and ‘The Bedlam Stacks’, inspired students in Years 9, 10 and 12 during her visit. She ran creative workshops on ‘magical writing’, ‘fantasy writing’ and ‘Gothic writing’, gave a talk to Year 9s on ‘Gothic and creative writing’, and signed copies of her books for pupils and staff.

‘The Watchmaker of Filigree Street’ won a Betty Trask Award and was shortlisted for the Author’s Club Best First Novel Award, the Locus Awards, and remained on the Sunday Times bestseller list for much of summer 2016. ‘The Bedlam Stacks’ was longlisted for the Walter Scott Award and shortlisted for the Encore Award.

Natasha has links to the Ely area but now lives in Bristol. She was a 2016 Gladstone Writer in Residence, and she teaches on Bath Spa University’s Creative Writing BA, alongside short courses at the Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education.

Thank you for visiting us Natasha – your talks and workshops were fascinating!
