Our Year 1 King’s Ely Acremont Pre-Prep pupils had a fabulously nature-orientated and adventure-packed day at Wimpole Estate on June 15th.
The children’s visit to the National Trust-owned estate, which is based near Royston and boasts a mansion, parkland, gardens, and rare breed farm, started with a beautiful ‘colour walk’.
As they wandered through the shaded woodland path, Year 1s collected tiny pieces of leaves, fallen petals, and any other treasures of nature that they could find, placing them on a sticky strip to make colourful cards.
Children and staff then made their way to the rare breed farm, where they saw Oxford Sandy and Black pigs, including some tiny, adorable piglets!
Year 1 Teachers, Mrs Monk and Mrs Johnson, said: “We also saw Bagot goats, cattle, chickens, donkeys, and the lovely Shire Horses, Lady, Queenie and Stanley! After eating our lunch under the trees, we set off to find the walled garden and the bee-friendly herbaceous boarders that were bursting with colourful flowers. When we found our way back to the shade of the trees, we all enjoyed games of Jenga, before boarding the minibuses back to Acremont. It was a wonderful final trip of the year!”
