Drama & Dance

King’s has an outstanding Drama and Theatre department with a long history of being a valuable and distinguished part of school life. 

 

Drama and dance are important parts of school like for many students. School productions have been favourably compared to professional productions and are a highlight of the school calandar.

In addition to acting, they provide many backstage and technical opportunities, essential to building self-confidence and developing theatrical skills.

Theatre Masterclasses abd Dance Clubs stretch our most able and deepen their understanding of the subject, whilst educational visits and tours provide opportunities to experience profesional theatre, both as performers and audience members.

We regularly perform at the Edinburgh Festival and been awarded four and five stars for original pieces of theatre. Trinity Speech and Drama lessons are available to those seeking additional individual challenges with many securing the highest awards available during their time at King's. 

Students who wish to study Drama or a related degree at university or who are auditioning for a place at drama school are well prepared with one-to-one coaching. 

Many pupils have gone on to successfully audition for drama schools and are now working as professional actors, designers, and technicians. 

Dance 

Dance is offered as part of our Enrichment programme, providing more opportunities for students to explore their passion.

In Years 11-13, dance continues to be an option in both Games and Enrichment. For our most dedicated dancers, including dance scholars and advanced performers, we have a dance troupe called King's Ely-te. They train once or twice a week, focusing on high-level technique and performing both within and outside the school.

The Drama department regularly has musical theatre productions in their extra-curricular programme which offers many dance opportunities.
