Science

At King's Ely Prep, Science is consciously hands on and interactive, providing a personal discovery of the world around us.

The true nature of school Science lies in being inquisitive about the world around us, asking questions about our understanding and enjoying the voyage of discovery.

In Year 3 and 4, pupils are taught by primary trained classroom teachers. In Year 5 and 6, they move to their own dedicated laboratory to be taught by specialist teachers.

Two fully equipped laboratories provide important space for our Year 7 and 8 pupils to experience science at a progressively higher level, where they are taught by secondary trained Science specialist teachers.

We provide enrichment for all our pupils to complement their learning beyond the laboratory. In Year 5, pupils take part in a light workshop in Ely Cathedral Stained Glass Museum, while Year 6 experience a bespoke “Space Pioneers” event.

Our ecology trip to Hunstanton in Year 7 provides pupils with experience in collecting live data from a beach habitat, producing detailed food webs and competitive “Top Trump” cards to represent the organic interactions that exist.

“Dead on Time”, a competitive CSI investigation, provides Year 8 with the chance to use both known and novel scientific techniques to solve a murder in one day.
