Sixth Form Academic

King's Ely Sixth form

Academic

Sixth Form is a time to deepen your knowledge and understanding of your chosen subjects and to develop skills that will be the foundation of your time in Higher Education and the workplace.

The Sixth Form team is available to help you with that choice, even before you enter the Sixth Form.

"The range of opportunities beyond the curriculum have been impressive – our son has taken up Rowing, continued his STEM interests, and started on his Duke of Edinburgh journey."
Mr and Mrs Bierton

Our curriculum is wide enough to suit a broad range of interests and we aim to ensure that a great variety of subject combinations are accommodated in the timetable.

You can study all of the traditional academic subjects like Chemistry and English, pick up a new subject like Psychology, or pursue your creative interests in, for example, Music or Drama.

Your subject choices will be based on your strengths and, of course, your preferences, but they will also importantly take account of your ambitions for Higher Education and life after school.

On a practical note, most students study three subjects for A Level. Each subject usually consists of six lessons a week, with an additional expectation of four to six hours of independent study.

There is also the opportunity to take the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), an independent research project which is viewed favourably by universities. Sixth formers can also study a Business OCR Cambridge Technical qualification which offers a more vocational pathway for students.
