Kings Ely Prep

Academic

Music

There is something exciting and inspiring everyone, regardless of musical tastes or ability.

Over 250 King's Ely Prep pupils receive individual instrumental lessons each week.

We offer a broad and exciting music curriculum, where students explore a wide variety of musical genres and develop musical fluency through singing, performing, composing, improvising, listening and analysing.

Every pupil experiences classroom music lessons alongside weekly rehearsals in a suitably differentiated ensemble as part of our performance music provision. This performance music provision effectively caters for every student at an appropriately challenging level, and includes groups such as Band, Strings, Rock School, Tuned Percussion, Samba, Gamelan and Instrumental Tasters amongst many others.

There are a multitude of  inspiring performance opportunities, including formal concerts, tours, and Cathedral services alongside more informal performances, opportunities to work with the King’s Ely Senior Music department and to engage collaboratively with Ely’s wider musical community.

In addition to our wide range of extra-curricular activities, there is also the opportunity for every student to have individual instrumental or singing lessons. Additional support is offered to students preparing to apply for music awards in King’s Ely Senior and pupils of all ages can enter for graded music examinations through the school with The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity Guildhall and RSL Rockschool.
