King’s Ely athlete, Oliver Davey, is celebrating his biggest swimming achievement to date!

Oli, who will be in Year 9 next month (September), secured a place at the Swim England National Summer Meet earlier this month (August), which is Swim England’s biggest annual domestic swimming event. The most skilled swimmers from across the UK came together at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield for this year’s competition, which took place from August 2nd-6th.

Oli, who joined King’s Ely Prep in Year 6 and who is a member of Ely Swimming Club (Barracudas), competed in the 50-metre Freestyle 14-year-old category. In his heat, Oli achieved 25.77 seconds, which positioned him 8th and a place in the final. In the final, he swam a slightly slower time of 25.96 seconds, securing him 7th position.

This was Oli’s first time at the Nationals, but something tells us that it might not be his last!

This success also comes just a couple of months after Oli, who lives in Ely, represented himself and King’s at the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Swimming Championships.

Competing again in the 50-metre Freestyle, Oli won his heats with a time of 25.88 seconds, and then went on to win in the finals with a time of 25.29 seconds, which broke the former IAPS 50-metre Freestyle record.

Huge congratulations, Oli – we are all very proud of you and we are following your swimming journey with excitement and awe. Special shout-out to your Swimming Coach, Elaine Hill, too!
