We are happy to be supporting Ely Community Lunches again this Christmas!

Our Kitchen and Catering Team have been busy making 200 mince pies, ready for them to be delivered to the charity’s volunteers in time for their big annual Christmas Lunch.

We have supported the charity’s Christmas Lunch for several years now; for the last two years we have made hundreds of servings of soup. The traditional festive meal is served simultaneously at three venues in Ely: The Lighthouse Church, Ely Methodist Church, and The Cathedral’s Almonry Restaurant.

People who have enjoyed the lunch in the past are individuals or families struggling financially with the demands of the festive season, those facing spending Christmas alone, and some people who are living on the streets. Ely Community Lunches works alongside Ely Foodbank, Age UK and the Lighthouse Centre, who recommend to them people who might benefit from their complementary meals. For those who are unable to leave their homes, lunches are also delivered to them free of charge.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “The Christmas Lunch is for everyone and anyone. We do our best to ensure that everyone at our sit-down meals has a happy time with a warm welcome, live music, plentiful food, a visit from Father Christmas, and a goody bag to take home. We are grateful for the support we receive from our wonderful team of volunteers and from local charities and supermarkets. Any excess donated foodstuffs are passed on to the Ely Foodbank or Ely Pantry.”

We hope everyone who has signed up for this year’s Ely Community Christmas Lunch enjoys their mince pies!

Whilst the majority of our school community are now off for the festive season, our Choristers, Chorister staff, and Kitchen and Catering Team are now gearing up for ‘Christmas Stayover’, which includes preparing and serving lunch for more than 100 people in school on Christmas Day!
