Our Prep and Senior Tennis Teams have had a busy and fun start to the term!

Miss Dominique Gilbert, who is Head of Tennis at King’s, brings us up to speed with what Tennis action there has been so far this season:

“What a half term it has been on the courts! Our Tennis Teams have been putting in some serious work and having a blast along the way. We started the term with fifty King’s pupils taking part in the annual ‘Play your Way to Wimbledon’ tournament, which gives Tennis players the incredible opportunity to compete at Wimbledon. Two of our doubles pairs have advanced to the next round, and we wish them the best of luck.

“The Prep School has had two competitive fixtures against The Perse and St Faith’s in Years 7 and 8. The Perse proved to be too strong for us, but there were some close games and some super Tennis on show. St. Faith’s were next, where the boys drew overall, and the girls won. Unfortunately, our fixture against St. John’s was rained off, but there are plenty of fixtures to come in the second half of term.

“Our Under 13 Girls LTA Team started off their Division 2 matches with an incredible fixture against Kimbolton, where it ended 6-6, leading to a doubles shoot-out. We unfortunately fell short, 14-12, but they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and dug deep to take it to the shoot-out. The boys start their matches after half term.

“Our Under 15 Boys and Girls LTA Team also started their Division 1 campaign against The Leys. While we lost both, every match was incredibly tight, with plenty of deuces. The boys also enjoyed playing on grass courts!

“In friendly fixtures, Years 9-13 have taken on The Perse, Wymondham, Gresham’s, Framlingham, and The Leys. We have had wins, draws and losses. Our Year 9s and 10s particularly shone in a mixed doubles fixture against Framlingham, where we won overall in some very tight matches.

“Whether it has been a competitive fixture or a friendly match, our players have made the most of every moment on the court, soaking up the sun (and sometimes the rain!) and enjoying the game. Here is to an excellent second half term of Tennis!”
