Glow sticks, wheelbarrow racing, and some good old fashioned marshmallow toasting made King’s Ely Prep’s 2024 Boarding Camp a roaring success!
Twenty-six pupils from Years 5-8, Mrs Nikki Hughes, Mrs Loveday Perceval-Maxwell, Mr James Houlston, Mr Toby Humphry, and Miss Michelle Parr spent the night under the stars on June 7th.
The annual camp used to take place in the gardens of Walsingham House and Priory House, but this year’s event was held at nearby Braham Farm. This provided pupils with a flavour of the Ely Scheme Stage Camps that they will take part in when they move up to Year 9.
Students and staff walked from school to Braham Farm in three groups. Once there, they set up their tents and collected some wood for the main fire. They cooked sausages and burgers on fire pits, toasted marshmallows, sipped hot chocolates, and enjoyed fun activities, including tag, glow stick games, wheelbarrow races, and a challenge to make an emergency stretcher and carry a patient in a race without causing a bigger injury.
The following morning, they packed away their belongings, took down their tents, and cleared the area, before walking back to the school swimming pool for some team raft building. Everyone’s rafts looked sturdy and promising… Before they entered the water!
Not only was the Boarding Camp packed with laughter, teamwork and memories, but pupils are also able to use the experience for the adventure section of their King’s Challenge Award.
