Den building, archery, crate stacking, bushcraft… Our Year 4 King’s Ely Prep residential trip was certainly action-packed!
Forty-three pupils and four members of staff enjoyed a fantastic overnight camping trip to Rootd Adventure in Hertfordshire.
Mrs Rachel Axten-Higgs, one of the teachers who went on the trip, said: “Our adventure began with exciting bushcraft sessions, where the children built impressive dens, learned essential survival techniques, and mastered the art of firelighting. Toasting marshmallows over the campfire was a delightful treat for us all.
“The fun did not stop there! The children also had a blast trying their hands at archery, where they showcased their aiming skills. Crate stacking was another favourite, with the children working together to build the highest stacks possible, cheering each other on with every successful addition.
“At night, the children settled well into their tents, mostly keeping them tidy and ordered. Trying out the new compost toilets at camp was a novel experience that added to the adventure’s charm. One of the highlights of the trip was the campfire night. The campfire was a roaring success, providing the perfect backdrop for the children to perform the acts they had been working on for weeks. From singing to storytelling, their performances were nothing short of spectacular.
“We were blessed with sunny weather, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The combination of engaging activities, enthusiastic participation, and beautiful weather made for a truly wonderful time. The children were a credit to the school, diving into all of the activities with boundless enthusiasm and energy. A big thank you to the staff at Rootd Adventure, and the dedicated school staff for making this trip an unforgettable experience. Well done, Year 4 – you were amazing!”
