Student Academic Journal sales raise over £300 for Woodgreen Pets Charity

December 29th, 2024

Sales of our '2024 Student Academic Journal' have raised a fantastic £315 for charity!

The Student Academic Journal is a pupil-led publication, which we launched in 2020. Each year, a small team of student editors compile the best Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) essays and competition essays written by Sixth Form students, and reproduce them in a concise form for people to enjoy and keep.

In this year's edition, essays range from global and universal issues, such as the politicisation of the Olympic Games and the nature of human evolution, to the very local, with one highly commended piece considering the impact of the 'Lost Orchards of Cottenham' here in Cambridgeshire.

As ever, the journal was sold to students, families, staff, and friends of the school at £5 per copy. This year's editors - Eliza Spooner, Raphael Bisson, Lily McCallum, and Will Shaw - decided to donate all funds raised through sales to Woodgreen Pets Charity.

Woodgreen works tirelessly to provide safe shelter, specialist care, and a brighter future for thousands of pets. The charity is also there for owners in need of advice and support too. Last year, the charity answered 67,008 pet-related enquiries, helped 8,281 pets through its services, brought 2,025 pets into its care, and performed 18,541 veterinary interventions.

We were delighted to welcome Will, Lily, and Raphael along to our End of Year Assembly to congratulate them, and Eliza, for compiling and editing the journal, and to tell them the grand total that was raised.

Thank you to everyone who purchased a copy of the journal, not only supporting the students' efforts and achievements, but also raising much-needed funds for Woodgreen!
