Year 13 leavers take a trip down memory lane to King's Ely Acremont Nursery and Pre-Prep!

August 5th, 2024

Osmond boys and Withburga girls were victorious in this year's King's Ely Senior House Music Competition!

Students and staff from Years 9 to 13 packed inside the Hayward Theatre for the annual extravaganza, which is undoubtedly a highlight of the school events calendar for many.

Our adjudicator for the evening was musician Mr Nick Robinson, who is a childhood friend of our Director of Music, Mr Neil Porter-Thaw. After much deliberation, the following was announced:

  • Winner of the Walsingham Cup for Ensemble - Osmond House
  • Winner of the Laird Cup for Unison Song - Withburga House
  • Winner of the Amherst House Music Cup (Overall Winners) - Osmond House

The event started with 'House Ensembles'. Etheldreda and Wendreda performed 'Die With A Smile'; School performed 'Viva La Vida'; Withburga performed 'Can't Fight The Moonlight'; Osmond performed 'She Bangs'; Torfrida performed 'Bellas Finals'; Hereward performed 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams'; Hill performed 'All I Wanted'; and Wilkinson performed 'Feeling Good'.

After tea, it was time for 'House Unison Songs', with electric performances of 'Umbrella' by Wilkinson; 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' by Torfrida; 'I Want It That Way' by Hereward; 'Bad Romance' by Hill; 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)' by School; 'Best Song Ever' by Withburga; 'Great Balls Of Fire' by Osmond; and 'Price Tag' by Etheldreda and Wendreda.

Congratulations of course to Osmond and Withburga, but bravo to every House for their superb energy and spirit. We also know that standing up on stage and performing to your peers can be incredibly daunting for some, so we are proud of every single student who took part.

Kudos and thank you to everyone involved in organising and delivering the competition - our Music Department, Housemasters and Housemistresses, Tutors, Staging, Lighting, Sound, Blueshed, Health and Safety - a huge team effort all round.

We look forward to sharing more 2024 House Music Competition photos with you soon!
