The Learning Support Department is committed to helping all students become independent and confident lifelong learners.

 

We help students develop strategies to maximise success and minimise barriers to learning.

At King’s Ely, we support students with a range of mild learning difficulties, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and some ASD profiles.

Learning Support is a calm and nurturing environment, enabling students to work individually with the team on hand to support when necessary.

For pupils on the Learning Support register, Learning Support lessons are available as either one-off sessions or a group of six (half a term). Sessions can include topics such as revision, reflection on exam results and study skills.

Pupils will be helped to use resources to assist with their learning for example, electronic software including:

  • Voice recognition software e.g. Microsoft voice recognition, DragonDictate
  • Computer readers e.g. natural reader online, Claro Read, Kindle

Exam access arrangements

Pupils going on to higher education who have exam access arrangements may want to have a 16+ assessment at the end of Year 12 or during Year 13. These are carried out by either a Specialist Teacher or an Educational Psychologist (pupils with an existing report diagnosing a learning difficulty no longer need the report to be updated).
