King's Ely students on fantastic form in UK Bebras Challenge

January 4th, 2025

We are thrilled to announce that 39 King's Ely Senior students have been awarded Gold certificates in the UK Bebras Challenge!

Achieving Gold places these pupils in the top 10% of UK entrants, and secures them a place in the next round of the competition - the Coding Challenge, which will be held in March/April.

A total of 182 students in Years 9-13 took part in the UK Bebras Challenge. The highest score for each year group was achieved by Kelvin Lou (Year 9), Matthew Goodfellow (Year 10), Bernard Wilkinson (Year 11), Oliver Sutcliffe (Year 12), and Xander Tong (Year 13).

The Bebras Challenge introduces computational thinking to students, and each year millions of young people from around 80 different countries take part. In the UK, each participant has 45 minutes to tackle a series of interactive tasks, designed to encourage logical thinking and problem-solving skills appropriate for their age group. The challenge is conducted online, and tasks aim to allow every student the opportunity to showcase their potential, whether they excel in maths or computing, or neither.

The UK Bebras Challenge is organised by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and delivered in partnership with the University of Oxford.

Well done to every single one of our students who took part, and congratulations and good luck to our Gold achievers for the Coding Challenge!
